This is a service in which we recognize that these times of celebration may be especially hard for people who are holding sadness and loss in their hearts. A service of solace is often celebrated on December 21 when it is the longest night. From this day on, the earth shifts into a gradual process of more balance between light and dark. We focus our ritual on candle-lighting to honor those people and experiences that we grieve, and celebrate the presence of light shining in our lives. We offer prayers to remind us we are not alone in our grief and uncertainty.
