Serve the Community

Serve the Community

Serving the community in various ways affords Cokesbury the opportunity to be disciples of Christ and to meet the needs of those around us.  Some of our community programs are listed below.

Angel Tree

Angel Tree at Christmas works by connecting parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts.  Cokesbury members purchase Christmas gifts for children in the name of their incarcerated parent.

Chicora/Cherokee Community of Shalom

Cokesbury assists Cherokee Place UMC and the Department of Social Services to help provide the needy with household items that they are unable to get with their monthly Food Stamp Allowance.  Cokesbury provides bars of soap to this ministry.

Costa Rica Mission Trip

Each year in February, Cokesbury sponsors a mission team to travel to Cost Rica.  We work with the Rice and Beans Ministry while there.

Food Pantry

Our food pantry supports food to local North Charleston residents every Third Saturday of the month at 9:00 am in the back of the Education Building.  Volunteers are encouraged to reach out to our community by assisting in food distribution.  To supply the needed food, donations are accepted immediately after the Worship Service on the fourth Sunday of every month.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through providing gift-filled shoe boxes and including the good news of God’s love.  This program of the Samaritan’s Purse provides an opportunity for Cokesbury members to be involved in the simple, hands-on mission project.  Throughout the year, Cokesbury holds a charity drive for donations of toys and other materials for the shoe boxes.  In November, Cokesbury families meet in the Family Life Center and fill the boxes that bless children around the world.

Salkehatchie Summer Service
